Des Moines, Iowa — Nominations are now open for the ACLU of Iowa Mannheimer Youth Advocacy Award. The deadline is Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, and the winner receives a $500 prize.
The Mannheimer Award recognizes a remarkable young Iowan or group of young Iowans aged 14 to 19 who have a record of defending civil liberties, particularly in the areas of:
- Free speech and free expression
- Reproductive freedom
- Racial justice
- Free speech or expression
- LGBTQ issues
- Immigrants' rights
- Gender equality
- Religious freedom
- Open government
- Technology and privacy issues
- Disability rights
Anyone familiar with a young person’s accomplishments is encouraged to nominate one or multiple young people. That means parents, teachers, guardians, religious leaders, advocacy groups, community leaders, another young person, and others may make a nomination. A young person may also submit their own nomination.
