The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, the statewide affiliate of the national ACLU, is seeking nominations of people to serve on its board of directors.

Some background: We value a board comprised of individuals who reflect a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills and the vast diversity of communities and people of our state. That’s why we’re reaching out to community partners to find potential future board members.
We especially welcome nominations of immigrants, people of color, indigenous people, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, women, formerly incarcerated people, and members of any other group historically discriminated against and we encourage them to self-identify when contacting us.
The board currently meets four times a year (3 via Zoom and 1 in person in Des Moines). As is the case with many nonprofit boards, participation in fundraising and development is an expectation of service.
The ACLU of Iowa is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest organization that defends civil liberties and civil rights through litigation, legislative advocacy, and public education in areas including but not limited to voting rights, racial and criminal justice, immigrants’ rights, free speech, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, and privacy rights.
